Raphael,
whose name means God has healed, is one of the seven Archangels
and one of only three actually mentioned in the bible. He is
considered to be the healing force found in the sheep pool discussed
in the book of John. He is most renowned, however, for his role
in helping Tobias, the son of Tobit, to marry Sarah. Sarah had
attempted marriage seven times but at each and every wedding
the bridegroom mysteriously died. Raphael successfully drove
the man-killing evil spirit out of Sarah and the couple was
happily united. He even cured Tobias’ father of blindness
to boot. Because of these biblical miracles this Archangel has
long been associated with love and healing. Raphael is also
the patron of blind people, doctors, happy meetings,
love, nurses, sick people, travellers and young people;
and he’s invoked against nightmares, bodily ills,
eye disease, mental illness and nightmares. His feast
day is September 29. |
