Peregrine was born in Italy in the thirteenth century. As a child he bitterly hated the Church and he attacked St. Philip Benizi when he came to his town to preach. St. Philip was so sweet and loving in his response to being assaulted that Peregrine converted and vowed, as repentence, to never sit again. Unfortunately, after standing for thirty years he developed foot cancer but was miraculously cured the eve before his extremities were to be amputated, thus his association with the malady. He was renowned for his humilty and patience and has been dubbed a second Job. Although Peregrine died nearly seven hundred years ago his body is still incorrupt. Peregrine’s feast day is April 30.
