Isadore
was born in Spain in the sixth century. His older brother Leander,
who also became a saint, took over Isadore’s education.
His technique of schooling involved force and punishment; Isadore
ran away. When he was returned home his brother confined him
to a cell where he was forced to study. Isadore’s enyclodpedia
of knowledge, the Etymologies, was a popular textbook for nine
centuries. He also wrote books on grammar, astronomy, geography,
history, and biography as well as theology. Isadore is also
the patron of computers, computer users and computer technicians.
His feast day is April 4. |
