Genesius was born in Rome in the late third century. He was a comedic actor and legend has it that he genuinely accepted Christ as his Savior onstage in a baptism scene, while performing in a play that mocked Christianity. This inspired him to make an impromptu speech denouncing anyone who hated Christians. The Roman Emperor Diocletian, a renowned Christian-hater, was in the audience and was not amused. He immediately had Genesius stretched on a rack, burned with torches and beheaded. Genesius is also the patron of comedians, lawyers and secretaries; and he's invoked against freezing and epilepsy. His feast day is August 25.
