Albert
was born in Germany in the thirteenth century. His aristocratic,
man-of-war father was outraged and tried to have him kidnapped
when Albert joined the Dominicans. But the Dominicans hid his
son in Paris, where he began his studies in the sciences. He
became a renowned authority on physics, biology, geology, geography,
botany, mineralogy, aIchemy and astronomy, and was sent to Cologne
to teach. He believed that sexual intercourse made the human
brain shrink, giving rise to foul odor and baldness. He claimed
that women were actually misbegotten men, who ejaculated sperm
during orgasm, and were less moral because they contained more
liquid. Albert is also renowned for adapting the theories of
Aristotle to fit Christian dogma. He was promoted to Bishop
but, preferring academia, resigned in less than two years and
went back to Cologne to teach. The Holy theoretician wrote thirty-eight
volumes of scientific theory in his lifetime. He was canonized
six hundred and fifty years after his death by Pope Pius XII.
Albert is also the patron of medical technologists and science
students. His feast day is November 15. |
