Adjutor was born in France in the 12th century. He was a courageous young knight who traveled to the Holy Land and fought in the First Crusade. He was captured and imprisoned by the Muslims but, legend has it, St. Mary Magdalene appeared to him in his cell, ripped off his chains and brought him safely home. Upon his return to France, he became a monk and lived the remainder of his Iife in quiet meditation and prayer. Adjutor is invoked against drowning because he sprinkled Holy water into the Seine, preventing seafarers from drowning. His feast day is April 30.
